Mervyn Gers Ceramics officially started operating as a business on Friday 1 April 2011 when Mervyn relocated his pottery studio to 4 Dorsetshire Street in Paarden Eiland.
Mervyn’s vision was to create a leading ceramic brand known for its innovation, strength and durability. In ten years, Mervyn Gers Ceramics has become synonymous with high-end handmade, artisanal tableware.
Since then, the remarkable increase in product demand and the related growth in turnover has led to the sourcing and training of several new artisans.
Today the company provides work for 40 employees.
To create a leading ceramics brand
With the growth in demand Mervyn had to find and train new artisans, thereby contributing to the preservation of age-old ceramic skills. With predominantly manual processes, growth in turnover is directly related to an increase in job creation, which has been a focal point since 2011. The company is currently employing 39 people.
We support job creation initiatives, our products locally made and produced. We support as far as possible other South African products and companies.
Job creation is one of our biggest accomplishments and we are immensely proud of every individual that we employ. Our emphasis remains on empowering women
Our staff are highly skilled, and many are artists in their own right. We train our team on site and also provide opportunities for them to grow and acquire new skills.
We have an exceptionally low staff turnover and see our investment in our people as our principal business asset.
